Monday June 1

There's more diversity in the harvest now, and that's always a good thing. This week the real treat was strawberries.  I picked a little over two pounds.  Seeing that the strawberries (Tribute) were planted last year, it's gratifying to get something this delicious in their first full year.  There was this picking:
And this one,
And two more.  Strawberries every day.  Can't complain about that.

Also a nice head of Green Magic broccoli, just under a pound, along with spring planted spinach.

There was a small head of Snow Crown cauliflower.

This morning I picked some lettuce from the SWC's.

And a little bit of Aspabroc broccoli.  The stems are tender in this variety.

Harvests for the year have just passed the twenty pound mark.  So far it has been a very good season for cole crops and spinach.  I would have liked to get more lettuce but I made some poor decisions in early spring which slowed production.  Still the garden is ahead of last year's production.

To see what growers from all different places are harvesting, go to Daphne's Dandelions.

The strawberries are nice. They are starting to ripen around here, but broccoli is a long way off. Didn't plant an early variety. Green Magic looks good.

Very nice looking cauliflower! I've never been successful at it (it usually bolts) but I keep trying anyway. And I am growing snow crown for the first time this year. Everyone has strawberries, it seems ... but I'm still waiting on mine.

Those are some beautiful looking strawberries - and I bet they tasted even better! In fact, all of your harvests look wonderful - very envious of those perfectly formed broccoli & cauliflower heads.

So that's what aspabroc looks like - I'm growing some as well and those seed company photos can be deceiving, so I wasn't sure what to expect.

Those strawberries look so good. I'm really loving having mine. I want to make some strawberry ice cream for later this summer. But of course now it turned cold for a change and it doesn't sound as good as last week.
