Harvest Monday

I'm new at this but slowly catching on, or so I tell myself.  I dug up the remaining parsnip from last years garden and one rutabaga.  Half the parsnip were roasted and eaten - they are still very tasty.  There's still 4 or 5 rutabagas left in the bed.  Parsnip - 2.4 lb.   Rutabaga - 0.8 lb.  That's it.  I plan to set up a harvest tally in a new tab when I get the time.

Your parsnips look lovely. I don't believe that I remember you participating in Harvest Monday. Welcome and happy gardening!

That's a lot of parsnips! I bet they're really tasty when they're roasted.

I still haven't tasted parsnips. Well I probably have at some place but just didn't know it. I keep telling myself some year I'll plant them but never do. I think I'm afraid of those really long roots. They need a nice deep bed.

Compared to carrots I've found that parsnips break through the soil a little better. And they really are good at drilling down in the soil, bringing up minerals and leaving organic matter deep in the soil.

Hey, look at your great looking root veggies! Those are two of the things I haven't tried growing. Roasting them sounds good. I remember eating turnips raw when I was young, but never parsnips or rutabagas. Great job! Thanks for sharing.
